Floating along Barton Springs in a boat

It was our last day in Austin today 😥 How better to say goodbye than to float along the springs in a little kayak, with a lovely view of the Austin skyline? Exactly!

 

 

 

 

 

 

We are pros at kayaking from our recent(ish) trip to Tsilivi, Zakynthos (we took kayaks out on to the sea)! Okay, well maybe not pros – but.. we can do it. 🙂 We paddled along the peaceful springs for around an hour in our little plastic kayak, and we were joined by colourful birds, swimming and sunbathing Texas Cooter Turtles, ducks and big Spiny Softshell Turtles! 🙂 It was fun looking down underneath you and discovering a little turtle enjoying a dip! They seemed quite happy to swim near us – just minding their own business.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Once we’d floated around for about an hour, we handed back our hired kayaks, and went for a dip in the springs! We were right by the outdoor pool, except the pool is closed on Thursdays for cleaning; so we just hopped into the water next to it! Real fresh water swimming!! 😀

As we were leaving we found another turtle, who was digging a hole by some steps. She was obviously going to lay some eggs in there, but we didn’t think much of her choice of location. Too many people and dogs were going by, so we are now worried for her babies! Good luck soon-to-be-mummy turtle!

We’ve just been for some big tasty pizzas and a coffee – and now we are ready to sleep ahead of another Godzilla-sized drive. We’ll clock up another 500 miles tomorrow and by the end of the day we’ll be in New Orleans, Louisiana.. So it’s going to take a while – around 8 hours worth  Still… 500 miles isn’t that far, the Proclaimers wouldn’t even take the car – they’d walk it! 😉
