A very long drive indeed

Another 500+ miles today, and we’ve made it out of Texas alive! We write from New Orleans, Louisiana (our 8th state) – which is quite exciting!! 😀

We left Austin quite early this morning, and it took us around 10 hours or so to get to New Orleans (there was some delays and a few alternative routes to be taken). Highlights of the drive included a huge water tank with a smiley face on it, a double rainbow, and a delicious and delightfully cheap Mexican meal, which we ate in the car!

Louisiana, unlike the other States we have visited, welcomed us with bucket loads of rain… Rain, rain and more rain! It’s still very humid (as expected), but we’ve haven’t been able to see much of our new surroundings due to a combination of  lack of light and the down pour! Guess we’ll get to see more tomorrow 🙂

So we’ve arrived at our New Orleans home, which will be base for the next 5 nights – and it’s big, spacious and quiet! 🙂 Our hosts Greg and Betty seem lovely! We had a chat with them and they provided us with beer, water and 2 little black kittens – so it’s definitely a good start! It will be nice to play with the cats and not have to worry about Evil Cat slicing us to pieces XD

So tomorrow we are going to venture into the French Quarter of New Orleans to see what we can find! 🙂 We’ve got lots of ideas on what we think we might want to do with our time here, so we should have fun! 😀

Come back tomorrow and see what we got up to! Byee!

I can hardly wait for the next installment! I was born in Austin (but my family moved away when I was two, so I don’t remember it) and I grew up in New Orleans.
