Sweating it out in the French Quarter

So today was fun! Greg (our host) had given us a sheet of paper with a long list of historical and interesting places that we had to go find!! A great idea, and we got to see a lot of the French Quarter – and certainly some places that we would never have seen without it! 🙂 In short, today was a full day of exploration of the New Orleans French Quarter.

Before we could start, we had to make it into the city. After struggling to find affordable parking, we asked Greg – who didn’t just tell us where to park, he showed us! We followed him on his little scooter! XD

So once we’d found a space, it was up to us to find each point! 🙂 We had to find statues, museums, a market, a river, historical buildings, a theatre, a bar and even a voodoo temple! We met up with Greg for lunch half way through, at a lovely restaurant called Maspero’s – an 18th century built building, originally used for slave trading. Some real history sits within its walls. Rob had a muffuletta (which is a giant sandwich with salami, cheese, ham among other ingredients) and Jen had jambalaya (which is prawn, chicken, ham and rice)! Yum! Greg paid for our lunch too, which was outrageously kind of him!

After lunch, it felt a LOT hotter, and even walking around was hard! Unbelievably sweaty!

The idea was to have a gallery of all the photos we took on here today, but the internet here won’t allow us to upload even one! 😦 Think we are going to have this problem every night here – which really is quite rubbish. But we’ll see if it improves tomorrow, and if not we’ll have to do a post with pure New Orleans shots from our 5 night stay here at our next destination! Sorry guys.

Since returning, we’ve hung out with Greg and Betty, played with the kittens, watched some TV and failed to upload photos! Time for bed!

Tomorrow, we are going to go on a swamp boat tour! Hopefully we’ll see some alligators! We’d love to upload photos too, but no promises on that one!! (Pleeeeease WIFI – be nice!!)
